Completed Project – Vintage Caravan Under Carriage
RV Solutions WA had been working in Huntingdale, W.A., on a 1975 Viscount Royal in need of caravan repair. This lovely old caravan has had a few tough years, and her new Owners are busily renovating her to ensure that she will again be the pride of any caravan convoy.
While there is much to be done, the first concern for Rebecca and Darren was safety, and they called RV Solutions WA to inspect their new travel companion’s undercarriage.
Diving under the van, Scott was happy to note that the Caravans chassis was in excellent condition, and while there was some rust on the axle, u-bolts and springs, everything else is in good working order.
Our responsible Owners want the best for their Caravan, and asked us to upgrade and replace all the working undercarriage to ensure she would remain in perfect running order for another decade.
As you can imagine, parts for a 43 year old Viscount Caravan aren’t readily available, but with our fantastic contacts we quickly had a new axle, springs, and drums ready for install.
As always when working on-site, we need to be ready to deal with anything, and today we faced a particularly challenging moment when Sasha, the resident toy poodle, decided to join us in the shade under our patients belly… fastest tongue in the West was the declaration, and after a few speedy kisses were received, and a quick pat given, Sasha was back in the sun, and we were back to work.
With our years of experience, it didn’t take long to safely remove all the hardware, and to check the chassis once again. Everything looks great, and while a full rust proof and re-paint is on the cards, for today it’s all about the new axle and improved suspension and braking system.
As Rebecca and Darren were so happy with the service received, they asked us to return the next day, and we got to work completing a list of important jobs that they needed done.
We repaired and upgraded the van’s Water Tank, with new potable water fittings, a brand new water pump fitted against the chassis and a new outlet tap on the Draw Bar.
The vintage caravan had a few old holes in its outer cladding that we patched, and with a bit of time, and some caravan repair know-how, we fixed the Rock Shield arms that had been out of service for some time.
Here is a photo of Jason carefully removing the vintage caravan’s old undercarriage. Reliable sources state that Scott was on the other side of the van. Whether he was helping, or having a nap in the shade is in doubt!
As always the team at RV Solutions WA prove why they are considered one of the hardest working Caravan repairers around!
By the end of the second day, we had installed a new step, 4 drop down stabiliser legs, a brand new axle, springs, drums, backing plates including new brakes, and U Bolts. Plus the additional water tank, pump, patches and repairs to the rock shield.
As we packed and cleaned up after ourselves, there was a true sense of accomplishment, knowing that today we had ensured this lovely family, and their beautiful vintage caravan would travel in safety for years to come.
